A Simple Life – GROWTH

The gift of ageing. I decided to write about the wonder of growing older. Most people think that ageing is not part of growth, but I have found that growth can be exponential as you age. Contrary to popular opinion, I have found this period to be one of the most exciting stages of my life.

Growth – what an exciting topic! What an adventure life is! According to Robin Sharma, the primary purpose of life is to grow. To see growth as a goal and to master ourselves.  I believe it is our responsibility to grow. The key to life is growth.

I decided to write about the wonder of growing older. Most people think that ageing is not part of growth, but I have found that growth can be exponential as you age. Contrary to popular opinion, I have found this period to be one of the most exciting stages of my life.  Some people approach the prospect of ageing with distaste and reluctance. Some deny it with quite comic results. How we feel about ageing depends on how we interpret it. Ultimately it is up to you. The only way to grow old happily is to have a Plan for Life, a Mission Statement, a Map.

Ageing is a gift! Think of the alternative. With age, it is easier to be positive. The striving of youth is over, and your only expectation is to enjoy the time you have left on this beautiful earth. You now have time to notice the beauty all around you. Time to take a walk in the fresh air, open your eyes to the beauty of the day. Time to read whatever takes your fancy, not to improve the mind, to enjoy, you finally have time to relax.

At last, you have time to discover things that are not that important to the world in general but very important to you. No longer are you part of the rat race, on the hamster wheel of life, never having time to stop and smell the roses. Now there is time. Time to tie Lavender ribbon with scented sachets onto your linen if it pleases you. Create a fairy garden and not care who judges you. Time to play! Time to take a nap!

To paraphrase Lucy Maud Montgomery, “I believe that the best days are those in which nothing wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string”.

I realized that the secret to growing happily older does not just happen. It would be best if you lay the foundations earlier on in your life. To draw up a Plan for Life so that you have developed or are on the way to developing a sense of purpose and peace by the time you are older.  As William Kinnear advises, “While you are younger, begin to seek order in your life. Establish order within so that order becomes a reality in your daily life. Take charge of your life and live in the present moment. Take stock of what is not working in your life and begin to make changes in your daily life”  Today, think about your perfect life. Take time to figure out what you need and make sure your present moment choices lead to your ideal life.

Simplify your life. Start with your home. Getting your house in order and endowing your children with respect and appreciation for order is one of the most precious gifts you can give them and yourself. According to the author Henrietta Ripperger “If a home does not make sense, nothing does”. Reclaim control over your daily life. Bring order and harmony into your home and your life. How we care for our home is an expression of self-esteem.

Live each moment with awareness, starting now, and you will have laid the foundation for a happy retirement. You will then finally reap the rich harvest of what you have sown.

May you experience moments of absolute bliss.
